“Mais tout d’abord il nous faut dire comment fut l’enseignement de cette sainte martyre qui, quand elle était païenne, s’appelait Yazdouy, et qui, dans sa nouvelle naissance de l’adoption gage de vie, choisit de s’appeler Christine, dénomination qui ne passe pas.” 1

Si sa poco della vita di Santa Cristina, martire in Persia nel 559. Chiamata anche Iadzo, figlia di Iadzin, è una donna persiana convertita al cristianesimo che per la sua fede viene perseguitata e martirizzata sotto l’imperatore di Persia Cosroe I.

Martirologio Romano: In Persia, santa Cristina, martire, che, percossa con le verghe, ricevette la corona del martirio sotto il regno di Cosroe I di Persia.

Il Sinassario Costantinopolitano commemora il 14 marzo una santa Cristina, martire in Persia (nel cod. Parig. Coislin 223 la commemorazione è anticipata al 13 marzo e vi si aggiunge che la martire fu fustigata). Anche il Martirologio Romano la ricorda il 13 marzo.

Di una Cristina martire persiana, chiamata anche Iazdo, figlia di Iazdin, ci resta, sebbene non completa, una passio in siriaco pubblicata dal Bedjan. Non esistono ragioni sufficienti per negare l'identificazione di questa Cristina o Iazdo, con la Cristina commemorata dal Sinassario Costantinopolitano; appare invece non sufficientemente motivata l'opinione espressa nel commento al Martirologio Romano, secondo cui essa sarebbe da identificarsi con la santa Sira o Sirin che subì il martirio sotto Cosroe I il 15 marzo del 559.
